The class cost 700thb ( pepper was free but older kid guests are 200thb).
Best 700thb I ever spent!
I took Pepper in the morning and Andrew took Coop in the evening. Both kids were more than welcome and got so much out of the class.
Firstly you get picked up from your accomodation which is great for me as I tend to get a bit lost!
Maam picked us up and dropped us at the cooking school.
Our teacher in the morning (9am -1pm) was GayRay who is also the owner of this school.
We were part of a class of eight made up of Aussies, French and Dutch.
We learnt about coconut cream from fresh coconut.
We learnt about all the different types of rice available and the different pricing.
We learnt about tofu and noodles that we would cook with.
Back to the kitchen we could choose three dishes to make but got a cookbook with all the dishes.
We chose a stirfry (pad thai) , appetiser ( springroll) and our curry paste was penang.
Before we cooked we had a welcome plate to learn about the taste elements of thai cooking. It combined salty, sweet, sour, spicy and bitter. (5 elements of thai cooking)
Curry Paste ( Red, green) just add peanuts for Penang.
We loved our morning with GayRay, it was a highlight of our time here in Chiang Mai. They offer full day courses in the city and on the farm so something to suit everyone.
We learnt so much about Thai cooking and which foods are used and why which makes our eating adventures that more special.
I will be hitting the markets back in Melbourne as we are lucky enough to have access to everything we used here today and I will start cooking my way through GayRays cookbook!
I can then keep a little piece of Chiang Mai in my heart.
