Creating a little bit of Thai at home.

Since we have been back home we have been slowly getting back into normal routine.

The weather is Wintery, far from the hot humid Chiang Mai days.

We decided it was time to bring some Thai warmth into our home!

We are lucky enough to live about a 20 minute drive to Dandenong market. They have a fresh food market every Tues,Fri and Saturday. We love it there. We went in search for our ingredients to make Pad Thai at home.

This is the stall I go to most often as I love chatting with the Cambodian owner about travel. She was thrilled to hear that we traveled with the kids and especially to Asia. We were ale to get all our fresh ingredients from here but with an Aussie price tag attached!

There is a great Asian grocer outside the market where we picked up glass noodles, sauces and tofu.

The "Peanut place " indoors has every type of nut and dried fruit you can imagine. I got 500g unsalted peanuts for $2.50 perfect for grinding up to top our Pad Thai.

Back at home our Winter garden is looking pretty bare ( there are some seeds underground ) and the chicken are off the lay but hopefully in a few months we will be able to use fresh eggs and fresh herbs from our newly planted garden.

Back in the kitchen we started preparing our meal. This is what takes the time!

Coops grinding the peanuts with the mortar and pestle. He does this on the floor on his knees to get maximum hitting power!

Soaking the noodles.

We even served it on banana leaf to be authentic even though it was raining and cold outside we pretneded we were in humid Chiang Mai.

Thankyou again to AsiaScenic and Gayray for teaching up how to cook and create Pad Thai.

Thankyou Cooper and Pepper for saying " it just smells and tastes like Chiang Mai food"

And for desert, something not at all Thai!

You can find the recipe for the scrolls here. They are truly awesome!

It all looks wonderful Bron.
One of the things I find hardest about living in Switzerland is the relatively tough immigration policy means very few ethnic groups are represented, and this means buying 'exotic' foods is almost impossible :-(

Yummy! Where did you get the banana leaves? Haven't seen them anywhere. Tell cooper and Pepper that's one of my fave dishes. Maybe you can all make it for me one day ;) Di x
